Xiamen Moon Cake Gambling (Bobing) in Mid-Autumn Festival Fun

Magic Haijing, Xiamen Hotels First Blog Talks

Have you ever been to Xiamen ? Have you ever known about Xiamen ? Do you in Xiamen Chinese New Year is never as hot as Mid-Autumn Festival? A recent China Daily article gave you a link to the above questions .

The moon is becoming rounder and brighter - so the Mid-Autumn Festival must be just around the corner.
And people are surrounded by pile of mooncakes which would cost them months to consume.

Yet in Xiamen, a coastal city of East China's Fujian Province, you find a pack of six dice inside after opening every gaudily-decorated box of mooncakes.

Gambling? Right, but it is definitely legal. Because the stakes among the locals are mooncakes - and that is how this unique celebrating activity has got its
Chinese name "Bo Bing." It is played only around the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The Mid-Autumn Festival and The Moon Cake

Magic Haijing, Xiamen Hotels First Blog Talks

Moon Cake Festival: A Mid-Autumn Festival (Chung Chiu), the third major festival of the Chinese calendar, is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month. This festival corresponds to harvest festival s observed by Western cultures (in Hong Kong, it is held in conjunction with the annual Lantern Festival).

Contrary to what most people believe, this festival probably has less to do with harvest festivities than with the philosophically minded chinese of old. The union of man's spirit with nature in order to achieve perfect harmony was the fundamental canon of Taoism, so much so that contemplation of nature was a way of life.

ABOUT EARTH HOUR

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.Earth
Hour - Chile In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.
Earth Hour 2010 takes place on Saturday 27 March at 8.30pm (local time) and is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Europe to Asia to the Americas will stand in darkness. People across the world from all walks of life will turn off their lights and join together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet. So sign up now and let’s make 2010 the biggest Earth Hour yet!.
It’s Showtime! Show the world what can be done.
Earth Hour - Light Writing

Earth Hour by WWF

Earth Hour is organized by WWF. With almost 5 million supporters and a global network in over 100 countries, it’s one of the world's largest and most respected independent conservation organizations. WWF’s mission is to stop the degradation of the Earth's natural environment and build a future where people live in harmony with nature.

Earth Hour timeline

Turn back the clock on Earth Hour and discover why, how, where and when it all started.

Why get involved?

Put simply, because our future depends on it!
Earth
Hour - Lima Group Earth Hour has done a lot to raise awareness of climate change issues. But there’s more to it than switching off lights for one hour once a year. It’s all about giving people a voice on the future of our planet and working together to create a sustainable low carbon future for our planet.

The future can be bright

New economic modelling indicates the world has just five years to initiate a low carbon industrial revolution before runaway climate change becomes almost inevitable. But it can be done, and the long term benefits will be enormous.
So now's the time to take a stand and give world leaders the mandate they need to make the right climate deal.

The Vegetarian's Feast - 4th China Xiamen Buddha Fair

Probably the Biggest one in the world ,China Xiamen International Buddhist Items & Crafts Fair (Xiamen Buddha Fair) , which was held 12th-15th ,Nov, 2009, has become the vane for Buddha industry .For me it is full of art , culture , and delicious food !

The biggest sign is the 1st International Vegetarian Forum, with subject of “feeling the vegetarian world, sharing a healthy life”.

It is a feast of Vegetarians', Vegetarian culture is influencing on the people’s life gradually. Vegetarianism has become a bran-new life style for environmental protection. It’s estimated that vegetarian food will become the dietetic trend all the 21 century. The mission of this forum is “health, environmental protection and development”.

Now Xiamen has at least 20 pure Vegetarian Restaurants , not include those restaurants serve special vegetarian dishes ,also in high quality (in Millennium Harbourview Hotel Xiamen , the Loong Yuen Chinese Restaurant has a series of dishes that really deserve trying).

Vegetarian food is often associated with religious beliefs; most of Buddhists are vegans. Nowadays, vegetarianism has been given new meanings: fashion, Environmental Protection and healthy. Vegetarian food and health complement each other, enjoying the Vegetarian life becomes the fashionable healthy concept that the people pursuit. Meanwhile, as life becoming better, the environment is being worse because of people’s destroy. The carbon footprints cover the whole world, some of which is caused by non-vegan. All of these remind people to paying attention to healthy eating, reducing the slaughter, maintaining the ecological balance. Statistics show that 10% of the U.S. population and nearly 4,000,000 British are vegans; In Taiwan, about 2 million people join vegetarianism, and also there are more than 4,000 vegetarian restaurants. Facing with Taiwan, Xiamen is most influenced also by vegetarian culture at an unprecedented rate. With the opening of cross-strait policy and the frequent economic and cultural exchanges, Taiwan's well-known vegetarian industry will increase the development of mainland’s industry.

surprise they recently joined in almost every disaster rescue action all over the world. Besides they made lots of effert in culture, religious , eco spreading to improve the status of the human being.
